Cedar Siding Inside Corners

It s important to note that working toward the inside corner means the last shingle in the row will likely need a precision size width cut as well as a scribe cut.

Always apply primer or stain end cuts. Use a felt paper spline wrapped around the corner and extending 6 inches beyond the corner board to protect the joints where the siding meets the corner boards see figure 1 5 at left. For inside corners i like to start at the corner itself and work the row outward from there. This saves time because i can use whatever random sized shingle i want to start with.

Kiln dried pine or air dried western red cedar. Blend traditional lap siding seamlessly around every bend with vinyl carpentry corner systems or with cedar impressions shakes and shingles with matching inside and outside mitered corners. Use overlapping 1x4s or 1x6s at outside corners or use 5 4 stock for a heavier look. It can also be butted against adjoining walls with a trim strip used to cover the joint.

Use a square length of 5 4 stock at inside corners with a spline underneath. With corner boards there is the choice of applying them next to the siding or over top of the siding as shown here.
